Set up Android for email

How to set up an Android device for University email.

These instructions were created using a Samsung Galaxy S3 running Android 4.4 (KitKat). Steps may vary depending on your software version and phone model.
  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Select the General tab, and then select Accounts.
  3. Select + Add account.
  4. Select Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync.
  5. Enter your Essex ID and password, and then select Manual setup.
  6. For Domain\user name enter your Essex ID again, and for Exchange server enter outlook.office365.com. Ensure Use secure connection (SSL) is ticked. Now scroll down and select Next.
  7. Select OK to Activation.
  8. Select OK to Remote security administration.
  9. Choose your Account options, or leave them as default, and then select Next.
  10. When asked to activate device administrator select Activate.
  11. Give your account a memorable name, and  then select Done.
  12. Your device will now synchronise with our mail servers - this may take a few moments.
  13. When your device has finished synchronising, access your email from the Email app.

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Select Accounts.
  3. Select + Add account.
  4. Select Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync.
